Music is central to Holly Lodge and plays an important part in school life. There are weekly singing assemblies in which the children learn songs that reflect the values of the school and enjoy singing collectively. Music is used to celebrate the children’s successes at Merit Assembly and at important events in the calendar such as Harvest, Christmas and Easter. Music is taught weekly in classes from Reception to Year 6. Pupils learn about pulse and rhythm in the context of different genres of music and learn to play a range of percussion instruments. In Year 2, the children learn to play the recorder. The school uses an interactive website to help develop the children’s listening and appraising skills.
